Sue Baum, originally from St. Louis County, has been in DC for 22 years and now spends half of her time in Santa Fe, NM. She studied Fashion at Pratt Institute and didn’t “come to clay” until 16 years ago at a local DC community center. She now has studied at most of the great East Coast craft centers, and many different clay studios in the area and afar, including Italy and China.

Making edible gingerbread with her Mom and daughter many, many years ago inspired her current work, which is to create permanent clay houses which look like Gingerbread and then to decorate them with actual royal icing and real candies. It’s great fun for all and can be repeated every year, thus the name, Permanent Gingerbread Houses.
